Dear Kids, Parents and Friends of Camp Ozark:
For the past 24 years we have seen firsthand the difference that God, working through the Camp Ozark experience, has made in the lives of young people. There is not a week that goes by that we are not contacted by a parent, camper, former camper or staff member reminding us of the impact of the Camp Ozark experience in their lives. For years we have been asked the question, "Isn't there a way that we can extend the Camp Ozark experience throughout the year?" or, "Can't we find a way to make this last until next summer?"
Ozone is the prayerful answer to those questions. Our experience at Camp Ozark has taught us a couple of things about kids in today's culture. First, no child is immune from the negative influences that exist in society today, even those from the most stable home environments. The negative pressures that exist for young people today are vast, intense and, unfortunately, sometimes irresistible. Second, regardless of the situation at home, kids, all kids, with the right support mechanism can not only survive, but can thrive, lead and win the battle against the negative influences of modern society. The best and most important asset to the parent and the young person in the battle against the negative influences of today's world is a genuine, caring relationship with God, positive Christian role models, and a place to belong that is a safe haven from the negative influences of today's society.
That, in a nutshell, is Ozone. Ozone is designed to be that safe (and, we might add, fun) haven. Ozone provides the solid Christian young adult role models that today's kids so desperately need and desire. Ozone fosters a fundamental opportunity for kids to establish and mature in a genuine, caring relationship with God. But, make no mistake about it, the success, in fact the very existence of Ozone, is dependent on you the parents, kids and friends of Camp Ozark. Every Ozone is advised and directed by a local Board of Directors made up primarily of parents. Every Ozone is funded initially and permanently by the tax deductible contributions (we like to call them investments) of local families. Every Ozone will continue to succeed only through the joint efforts of dedicated paid staff, committed volunteers, parents and kids, and, most importantly, the providence of God. This is a huge undertaking and a giant leap of faith. All of us at Camp Ozark think it is worth whatever it takes. We can't do it alone. We welcome your support. God bless you, but most importantly, God bless the kids.
Sincerely,
Sam and Susan Torn
